Why Volunteer?








LOSAP (Length of Service Award Program) retirement program, $3000 tax deduction, health, life and disability insurance, education discounts, housing discounts, various merchandise and service discounts, and specialty license plate.

Selflessness, safety, being a team player, integrity, honesty, courage, compassion, commitment, and competence. The competence will come from training to ensure a job is done safely and effectively. Other requirements vary by local fire department, but generally you must be 18 years of age, have a high school diploma or GED, and pass a required SLED background check and physical.

Vary by location, but every volunteer must complete training and selflessly protect their community at all times.

Firefighters have several duties, the most important of which is selflessly serving their communities at all times. They respond to emergency calls and requests for help, attending to emergency events such as fires, road accidents, and floods. They also are responsible for educating their communities about fire safety.
